John Berens, MD is a board-certified physician in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics. He is a faculty member at Baylor College of Medicine where he serves as a full-time clinician in the Transition Medicine Clinic, a primary care clinic that serves adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). His special interests include healthcare transition, interprofessional education, and addressing health disparities experienced by individuals with IDD across the lifespan. In addition to his clinical work, he volunteers with Special Olympics of Texas and is the faculty leader for the medical student chapter of American Academy of Developmental Medicine and Dentistry. He lives in Sugar Land, Texas with his wife and three young children.

Dr. Joseph Calabrese received a Doctor of Dental Medicine degree and a certificate of Advanced Graduate Study for Advanced Education in General Dentistry from the Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine (GSDM) in 1991 and 1992, respectively. He completed a US Department of Health and Human Services / Bureau of Health Professions Faculty Training Fellowship in Geriatric Dentistry at the Boston Medical Center / Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Medicine in 1994.
Dr. Calabrese joined the faculty at GSDM in 1992. He currently serves as Associate Dean of Students and Director of the Geriatric Dental Medicine at the rank of Clinical Professor in the Department of General at GSDM. He is the Deputy Title IX Coordinator, Team Dentist for Boston University Athletics and Faculty Advisor to the American Student Dental Association at GSDM. In addition, he is a Lecturer at Harvard School of Dental Medicine and has been a guest lecturer at the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences Forsyth Dental Hygiene Program and the Mount Ida Dental Hygiene Program. He is also an attending dentist in Geriatric Dental Medicine at Saint Joseph’s Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Dorchester, Boston Medical Center in Boston and Hebrew Senior Life in Roslindale and Dedham, MA.
Dr. Calabrese hold membership in the Alpha Omega Dental Fraternity, Omicron Kappa Upsilon National Dental Honor Society, Special Care Dentistry Association, American Dental Education Association, American Dental Association, American Student Dental Association, and the Massachusetts Dental Society. Dr. Calabrese is a fellow in the American College of Dentist and International College of Dentist and was recognized by the Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine with the distinguished alumni award for service to the school, community and the profession.

Dr. Michael Chan is a 1997 graduate of The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio Dental School. He completed the General Practice Residency Program at UTSD Houston and Memorial Hermann Hospital-TMC. He has been a member of the UTSD faculty since 1999 and also maintains a private practice.
Dr. Chan is a fellow of the American Academy of Hospital Dentists, a diplomate of the American Board of Special Care Dentistry, a member of the American Dental Association, and a master in the Academy of General Dentistry.

Dr. Priya Chandan is a physician-scientist who engages in health services research to improve the quality of medical care for people with disabilities. She has been involved in health policy and advocacy efforts for over 15 years and has served in leadership positions in both academia and industry at national, state, and local levels. She is a clinical associate professor at the University Louisville School of Medicine and is passionate about medical education. She serves as a mentor and a teacher to medical students and medical residents nationwide, across multiple medical specialties. For the last eight years, she has served as Project Director of NICHE-MED, an initiative that has activated close to 40 medical schools to develop and implement community-engaged medical education efforts that are co-created with disabled self-advocates. Dr. Chandan serves as a senior editor for PM&R, the official scientific journal of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and has expertise in mixed methods, econometrics, and community-engaged research methods. She also currently serves on the Scientific and Clinical Advisory Board for the National Down Syndrome Society and the Board for Special Olympics Kentucky.

Jessamin Cipollina, MA, is the Program Manager of the Oral Health Nursing Education and Practice (OHNEP) program. Ms. Cipollina has created several web-based education and practice resources for integrating oral health into primary care education and practice. She has consulted, presented and published widely on health equity, oral-systemic health, and interprofessional education and practice topics. She most recently contributed to a 2024 white paper from the World Economic Forum, The Economic Rationale for a Global Commitment to Invest in Oral Health.

Dr. Kristin Compton is an experienced developmental dentist with a wide range of expertise in healthcare operations, strategic planning, project management, leading teams, uniting organizations, and process development & improvement. During her career at UTHealth Houston, Dr. Allison Edwards has taught 8 of the 10 core courses in the RN-BSN program and has been the lead faculty in three Pacesetter BSN courses for senior nursing students, taught first semester nursing students lab for health assessment and served as faculty mentor/preceptor for DNP student practicums. Dr. Edwards has developed over 15 clinical affiliation agreements focused on the care of people with developmental, acquired and progressive disabilities. Her last six years at Cizik School of Nursing have been focused on conducting the ASK (attitudes, skills and knowledge) and MOSAIC (mentoring our students to achieve interprofessional collaboration) fellowship funded by an endowment and a grant with the overarching goal of providing nursing students with improved attitudes, skills and knowledge in the care of people with disabilities through experiential, clinically immersive experiences.
Edwards has worked in a variety of leadership, education and management roles, including profit, not-for-profit and managed care facilities. Her clinical experience encompasses case management, pediatrics, medical surgical and the Operating Room. Her education and preceptor experience has spanned her entire career including as an instructor in the central education department of a tertiary care facility, as adjunct faculty at a community college and the past 15 years at Cizik School of Nursing. She received her BSN degree from University of Texas Medical Branch: Galveston, Texas (honors), MS in Nursing/Hospital Administration from Texas Woman’s University: Houston, Texas and DrPH from University of Texas School of Public Health: Houston, Texas.
Dr. Edwards is the author and coordinator of the endowment for the Joan and Stanford Alexander Fellowship in Disabilities. To date, 10 cohorts of first semester senior students have participated in this cocurricular experience. She has published extensively on the impact of disability focused clinical nursing education on students’ attitudes, knowledge and skills. Dr. Edwards fellowship received the American Association of Colleges of Nursing- Award for Innovations in Professional Nursing Education for Academic Health Centers-Disability Fellowship in 2022. She is also a recipient of the Hall of Fame Award in 2020 from the University of Texas Medical Branch: Galveston, Texas.
In July 2015, Governor Greg Abbott appointed Edwards to the Texas Board of Nursing to serve a term that expired in January 2021 and re-appointed her to serve for a second term ending January 31, 2027. Edwards achieved Certification for Nurse Educators (CNE) in 2015 and Developmental Disability Nursing (CDDN) designation in 2023. Fall of 2023, Dr. Edwards was inducted into the Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing. She is a member of the Developmental Disability Nursing Association and Sigma Theta Tau-Zeta Pi Chapter. Edwards also serves on boards of The Center for Pursuit, UTMB Alumni, UTMB Development, and PARTNERS (Providing Advancement Resources to Nursing, Education and Research).

Dr. David Fray, a graduate of The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, (DDS 1979) and Oklahoma City University (MBA 1997) completed a geriatric long-term care administrator preceptorship at the Arkansas Health Center and post-graduate training in developmental dentistry for adults at the Underwood and Lee Clinic in Louisville, KY affiliated with the University of Louisville School of Dentistry. Dr. Fray was in private dental practice with an emphasis on adult special needs for 15 years, served as Dental Director in a Federally Qualified Health Center in Rochester NY, and has served an additional 18 years as a public health administrator for State Geriatric and Developmental Disability programs in Arkansas and Hawai’i. His public service consists of: Director of the Arkansas Health Center, Assistant Director of Mental Health Services, Director of the Developmental Disabilities Division of the Arkansas Department of Human Services; Arkansas Children’s Medical Services, Arkansas First Steps Early Intervention Program, Hawaii Department of Health, Chief of Division of Developmental Disabilities, Hawaii Neurotrauma Services, Medical and Dental Clinical Services, Home and Community Services and numerous State and Federal Committees and Boards.
He is board certified in Long-Term Care Administration, holds a master’s level Certified Healthcare Emergency Planner (CHEP certification) and is a licensed nursing home administrator for twenty three years. He is a Professor in the Department of General Practice and Dental Public Health at the University of Texas Health Science Center, School of Dentistry at Houston (UTSD). He leads the Interdisciplinary Education rotations in geriatric and intellectual disability electives with Baylor College of Medicine, Adult Transition Clinic and in the UTSD Special Needs Clinic. He is on the Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities (LEND Program) Faculty at the UTHealth McGovern School of Medicine in Houston.

Dr. Gülsün Gül is the Chief of Innovation, Clinical Education, and Public Health at the American Dental Education Association (ADEA) and has extensive experience in dental education, research, public health, hospital operations, and project consultancy. At ADEA, she also served as the Chief Policy Officer at the Office of Policy & Education Research. At Tufts University School of Dental Medicine, Dr. Gül held various leadership roles, including Interim Division Head of Medically Complex Patient Management, Director of the Medically Complex Patient Clinic, and Division Head of Public Health. She held preclinic, clinic, undergrad, and post-graduate faculty positions in the Departments of Public Health, Pediatric Dentistry, and Comprehensive Care; she served as a faculty mentor in school-based public health programs. As a PI, Co-I, she mentored many dental students on Special Health Care Needs patients and caries research (Colgate Study) from diabetic populations to Intimate partner survivors. As a Course Director, she lectured on Public Health, Epidemiology, Critical Thinking in Scientific Literature, Growth and Development, Dental Management of Medically Complex Patients, and Risk Assessment and Caries Management.
Before her academic career, Dr. Gül served as the Corporate Director for Hospital Operations and a Project Consultant for organizations like Bayindir Health Care Systems, the Mother Children Education Foundation (ACEV) in Istanbul, Turkey, and the Health Care City Dental Clinic Project in Dubai with Harvard Medical International, focusing on integrated healthcare systems and strategic planning. She also practiced as a pediatric dentist and was an assistant clinical investigator in the Department of Oral Sciences at Forsyth Faculty Associates, The Forsyth Institute. Dr. Gül has been recognized with the Richard Allard Award and the Jonathan M. Tisch College Citizenship and Public Affairs Fellowship. She is an alumna of the ADEA Emerging Leaders Program and ADEA Leadership Institute. She holds a dental degree from Hacettepe University, an M.B.A. from Suffolk University, an M.P.H. from Tufts Medical School, and both a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study in Pediatric Dentistry and an M.S. degree in dental research from Tufts Dental School.

Dr. Judith Haber, PhD, APRN, FAAN is Professor emerita and Executive Director of the Oral Health Nursing Education and Practice (OHNEP) program. Dr. Haber was the Principal Investigator on the HRSA funded program, Teaching Oral-Systemic Health (TOSH) and is the lead author of the landmark (2015) AJPH publication, Putting the Mouth Back in the Head: HEENT to HEENOT. She was also a member of the HRSA Expert Panel that developed the 2014 Interprofessional Oral Health Competencies for Primary Care Providers. She was a contributor to the 2021 NIDCR Report, Oral Health in America: Advances and Challenges. She has consulted, presented, and published widely on interprofessional education and practice as well as oral systemic health issues.

Dr. Allison Hall, PT, MPT, DPT is a physical therapist, innovator, and advocate for inclusive and collaborative healthcare. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Psychology from Duke University and both a Master's and Clinical Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, Department of Physical Therapy and Human Movement Sciences. With a longstanding passion for helping people with complex needs, Dr. Hall was published early in her career under her maiden name (Gutierrez) in the prestigious journal Developmental Medicine and Child Neurology.
Dr. Hall has practiced pediatric physical therapy for decades in the United States and England across various settings, including early childhood intervention, home health, outpatient clinics, schools for children with complex needs, and a world-renowned pediatric orthopedic hospital. Throughout her career, she consistently recognized a desire among parents, caregivers, and referral sources for comprehensive information to guide healthcare decisions. To address this need for trustworthy resources, she founded Branchly, an innovative online platform that integrates interdisciplinary collaboration, professional education, and online directories. By breaking down these silos, Branchly enables families and referral sources to more efficiently locate specialized services.
When not engaged in building the Branchly community of clinicians and families, Dr. Hall enjoys traveling with her husband and three children, exploring nature on foot, practicing yoga, gardening, watching her children's sporting events, and admiring the beautiful Texas sky.

Dr. Michelle Henshaw is a graduate of Columbia University; received her Doctor of Dental Surgeryfrom the University of California San Francisco, and her Master of Public Health and Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study in Dental Public Health from Boston University. She completed a general practice residency at the Brockton VA Medical Centerin 1994, and in 1996 completed a Department of Health and Human Services/Bureau of Health Professions Faculty Training Fellowship in Geriatric Dentistry and Medicine at the Boston Medical Center/Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Medicine. In addition, Dr. Henshaw was selected as a Community Campus Partnerships for Health Fellow in 2002 and was named a Health Disparities Scholar by the National Institutes of Health-National Instituteof Minority Health and Health Disparities from2004-2007.
Dr. Henshaw joined the faculty of the Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine (GSDM) in 1996. She is a Professor in the Department of Health Policy and Health Services Research at GSDM, where she also serves as the School’s Associate Dean for Global and Population Health. In this role, she furthers the School’sresearch and service missions by developing and managing programs and partnerships with diverse national and international organizations– all with the goal of reducing global oral health disparities. To that end, she has also served as the attending dentist at several long-term care facilities and was instrumental in developing the geriatric dentistry and medicine interprofessional education assignment at GSDM.
With a commitment to addressing oral healthinequities, Dr. Henshaw’s research has focused on developing interventions to address oral health inequities and increase access to care for underserved populations, concentrating her work on the two ends of the lifespan. She has been Co-PI on the NIH U54 Northeast Center for Research to Evaluate and Eliminate Dental Disparities (CREEDD) and PI or Co-I on several other NIH and other federally funded grants focused on early childhood caries and oral health disparities in older adults. Currently, she serves as chair of the Steering Committee for the NIH Consortium for Childhood Oral Health Disparities Research. She has served on grant review panels at the National Institutes of Health, served on the Editorial Board of three peer-reviewed journals and as a reviewer for numerous other journals.
Dr. Henshaw holds membership in the Omicron Kappa Upsilon National Dental Honor Society and is a fellow in the American College of Dentists and International College of Dentists. She has held leadership roles in the American Dental Education Association, served as the President of the Massachusetts Coalition of Oral Health and the Boston Chapter of the American Dental Research Association. She has been the recipient of numerous awards including the Spencer N. Frankl Teaching award in 2000, The William J. Gies Award for Innovation in 2011, Designated as Exceptional Faculty by the Boston University Provost Office in 2013 and the University of California at San Francisco 150thAnniversary Alumni Excellence Award.

Brandon Key is a Dentist Anesthesiologist and a diplomate of the American Dental Board of Anesthesiology. He graduated dental school from UT Health Science Center San Antonio before pursuing his residency training in Dental Anesthesiology at Stony Brook, NY. Upon completion of his residency, he pursued private practice in San Antonio, TX before becoming a full-time Assistant Professor at the UTHealth School of Dentistry in Houston, TX. He has a particular passion for treating dental patients with special needs and helping to improve their access to care.

Dr. Dian is a graduate of the University at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine where she completed both her Doctorate of Dental Surgery as well as her specialty training in pediatric dentistry. She also completed a general practice residency at the University at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine and is certified by the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. She joined University Pediatric Dentistry in 2001.
Dr. Dian completed her undergraduate education at Howard University and had previously graduated from the Dental Nurses Training School in Trinidad.
Dr. Dian has served as faculty in the Department of Pediatric and Community Dentistry for the University at Buffalo since 2000, and also is an attending pediatric dentist for the pediatric dentistry specialty training program. She serves as both clinical instructor for pre-doctoral students at the School of Dental Medicine, as well as Clinical Assistant Professor in the department of Pediatric and Community Dentistry, focusing much of her teaching on community dental programs. Dr. Dian has received numerous awards including the Minority Dental Faculty Development Award for Scholarly Activity and the Dental Women’s Guild Scholarship.
Dr. Dian has chaired the Bethel Head Start's Health Advisory Board, been a board member of the Buffalo Prenatal-Perinatal Network, Inc. and continues to lecture to community organizations on the importance of oral health in very young children. She has participated in numerous international service trips to the Dominican Republic, Belize, Mexico, India and her home town in Trinidad and Tobago.
She is a member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, the Eighth District Dental Society, the American Dental Education Association, the National Dental Association and the American Dental Association.
Dr. Dian received the 2015 Alumni Association Humanitarian Award from the University at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine. She continues to live and work between Buffalo, Arizona and Trinidad and Tobago. She enjoys Zumba, traveling and making kids smile.

Dr. Luquis-Aponte grew up in Caguas, Puerto Rico. The fourth of five children always had a passion for helping people. She attended the University of Puerto Rico at Cayey where she received her undergraduate degree in Natural Sciences (BioSciences), later attended the University of Puerto Rico School of Dentistry where she received her degree of Doctor of Dental Medicine, and the School of Public Health where she finished a Master’s in Public Health with a concentration in Maternal and Child health. She also holds a PhD in Public Health from Walden University with a special interest in Community Health Education and Promotion.
Before establishing in El Paso and opening her dental practice, Dr. Luquis-Aponte worked as Dental Director at the Brownsville Community Health, the University of Houston, Dental Branch as an Assistant Professor and an associate dental provider for other dentists in the El Paso community. During her private practice years, Dr. Luquis-Aponte provided care to special needs community patients, especially adults with conditions such as IDD, Autism, Down’s Syndrome, PTSD, and other conditions considered under the special care needs scope. After 17 years as a private dentist, she has become a Full-time Associate Professor and Special Needs Care Education Director at the Hunt School of Dental Medicine, in El Paso, TX.
Her dedication leads her to seek and be trained in the newest advancements in cosmetic dentistry, orthodontics, implants, and restorative treatment providing a gentle, caring, and comprehensive approach to complete oral health for those who seek her care.
Dr. Luquis-Aponte has over 20 years of experience as a dentist and community leader. Dr. Luquis-Aponte is a standing member of the American Dental Association, Texas Dental Association, El Paso Dental Association, the Special Care Dentistry Association, and the American Academy of Developmental Medicine & Dentistry, among other organizations. She is past president of the Puerto Rican Medical Society of El Paso and the El Paso District Dental Society.
When Dr. Luquis-Aponte is not practicing her passion of dentistry she spends most of her time with her three children. She practices and competes in ballroom dancing, holds a 1st degree Black belt in the Martial art of Karate, and loves music and art.

Dr. Steven Perlman is a Clinical Professor of Pediatric Dentistry at the Boston University Goldman School of Dental Medicine. For the past 40 years, he has devoted much of his private practice as well as his teaching, to the treatment of children and adults with physical and intellectual disabilities.
Dr. Perlman is a past president of the academy of Dentistry for Persons with Disabilities, the Massachusetts Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and the American Academy of Developmental Medicine and Dentistry.
He is a Fellow of the Academy of Dentistry for Persons with Disabilities, A fellow of the American College of Dentists and a Diplomate of the American Board of Special Care Dentistry.
Dr. Perlman was the first dentist in Massachusetts to receive the Exceptional Physician Award. He is a Distinguished Alumnus of the Boston University Goldman
School of Dental Medicine and the first graduate in the history of the Dental School to also be recognized as a Distinguished Alumnus of Boston University.
He is the recipient of the Harold Berk Award from the Academy of Dentistry for Persons with Disabilities and the Manny Album Award from the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. Both awards are the highest honors of the organizations recognizing lifetime achievement in the care of people with disabilities.
Dr. Perlman has also been honored by the Pierre Fauchard Academy and in 2002, the American Dental Association presented him with their Access Recognition Award.
In May 2002, the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry Foundation named Dr. Perlman Dentist of the Year for his significant contributions to the dental profession and the specialty of pediatric dentistry over an entire career of distinguished service.
He has published over 300 articles, co-edited a textbook Treating the Dental Patient with a Developmental Disorder and was a contributor to the Surgeon General’s Report on Oral Health in 2001.
In 2005, Dr. Perlman received the Exceptional Parent Maxwell J. Schileifer Distinguished Service Award for dedication to improving the lives of individuals with special needs and disabilities as well as the Trudi Birger Community Service Award from Alpha Omega for extraordinary contribution to children with special needs all over the world.
In 1993, Dr. Perlman founded Special Olympics Special Smiles, an oral health initiative for the athletes of Special Olympics International. It now has over 200 events each year taking place in every state in the United States and in over 100 countries. He currently serves as their Senior Global Clinical Advisor.
Dr. Perlman is cofounder and past president of the American Academy of Developmental Medicine and Dentistry (AADMD) and in 2005 and 2006 served as an advisor to the President’s Committee for Persons with Intellectual Disabilities.
In 2008, in Shanghai, China, Special Olympics honored Dr. Perlman with a special Lifetime Global Leadership Award in promoting human dignity. Among the 12 individuals honored were; Nelson Mandela, Deng Pu Fang, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Vanessa Williams, Yao Ming and Nadia Comaneci.
In 2009, A. T. Still University of Arizona School of Dentistry and Oral Health presented Dr. Perlman with the honorary degree: Doctorate of Humane Letters.
On February 26, 2009, the Chicago Dental Society presented Dr. Perlman with the 2009 George Cushing Award for promoting awareness of the importance of oral health.
In July 2009, the Academy of General Dentistry honored Dr. Perlman with their Humanitarian Award.
In 2010, Massachusetts Special Olympics honored him with the Eunice Kennedy Shriver “Let Me Be Brave” award at a banquet honoring his achievements.
Dr. Perlman is an Adjunct Professor of Pediatric Dentistry at the A. T. Still University of Arizona School of Dentistry and Oral Health, the Lutheran Medical Centers,
the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. He is also Adjunct Professor at the Jamaica School of Technology.
He was the 2013 recipient of the Dr. Robert E. Cooke Achievement Award Achievement Award for Outstanding Leadership and Service and the Allen Crocker, M.D.
Health and Services Award from the state of Massachusetts.
He is the 2013 Holyoke Award recipient for his dedication to improving the lives of children and adults with intellectual disabilities from the North Shore Medical Center, which has over 1,000 physicians on their staff.
In 2014, in Berlin, Germany, International Association for Disability and Oral Health awarded him an Honorary Lifetime Membership.
In 2017, in Graz, Austria, he received the Golisano Global Leadership Pioneer Award.
On September 3, 2018, he received the Honorary Lifetime Member of Arabic Society of Disability and Oral Health.

Dr. Erin Potts is 1998 graduate of The University of Texas Dental Branch-Houston. She is currently an Associate Professor at University of Texas School of Dentistry at Houston(UTSOD) where she works in the Department of General Practice and Dental Public Health as Director of the Special Patients Clinic since 2019. She is a Clinical Director with the Texas Special Olympics Healthy Athletes program, and has volunteered in and coordinated oral health screening events throughout the state of Texas. She also serves as a faculty advisor for the Student National Dental Association (SNDA) at UTSOD-Houston, where she mentors and provides support, guidance, and oversight for organizational and community projects the SNDA plans and executes throughout each school year.
She possesses many years of practical and clinical experience in the diagnosis, treatment planning, and active clinical management of medically complex patients in a dental setting. As director of the Special Patients Clinic, she currently serves patients who have received care through The Institute for Rehabilitation and Research (TIRR) Memorial Hermann (TIRR-MH), Transitional Clinics for IDD patients at Baylor College of Medicine, the Houston VA Hospital, and the community at large to receive comprehensive dental care in our clinic. It is quintessential that pre-doctoral students and dental hygiene students gain clinical experience in managing patients with varying medical complexities. She believes it is through this exposure and training that we can, in undergraduate training, play an active part in making dental healthcare more accessible and inclusive to all patients. She also serves as Dental Initiative Lead in the Southeast Texas Geriatrics Workforce Education Program to create original educational content to train healthcare professionals to care for the elder community.

Dr Kadambari Rawal, fondly known by her students and patients as “Dr. Kady” serves as a Clinical Associate Professor at Boston University Henry M Goldman School of Dental Medicine and Lecturer of Oral Health Policy and Epidemiology at Harvard School of Dental Medicine. For the past fifteen years, she has been part of BU Dental Health Center's Faculty Practice where she provides full mouth rehabilitation and comprehensive dental services to adults, older adults and adults with special needs. She exclusively practices geriatric dental medicine at the long term care facilities of Hebrew Senior Life and teaches minimally invasive, evidence-based dental medicine strategies for patients with advanced healthcare needs as well as those needing treatment in long term care settings.
She serves on the boards of several organizations, she is the current Chair for the ADEA section on Gerontology and Geriatrics Education. She also serves as the President Smiles For Success Foundation, an organization bringing no cost dental makeovers to women graduates of job placement programs in the US and is the current President of the American Association of Women Dentists Boston, Massachusetts chapter. She served on the board of the American Association of Women Dentists (AAWD) as their Editor in Chief and recently completed her term as the Immediate Past Chair of the Boston District Dental Society as the board’s first woman of color to do so. She has also Chaired the American Dental Education Associations’s (ADEA) special interest group on Internationally Educated Oral Health Professionals. She has contributed to several clinical outreach efforts to bring dental care and oral health education to women and older adults locally, nationally and internationally. She has worked with outreach projects like Missions of Mercy, TeamSmiles, Give Kids a Smile, Smiles for Success and Saving Senior Smiles and India’s first oral health NGO-Angel Dentists Network as their International Liaison.
Dr. Rawal has won accolades from academic institutions and professional societies and was awarded the prestigious Lucy Hobbs Award in the category of “Woman to watch” in 2016, in 2019 she was awarded the honor of “Ten under ten” by Massachusetts Dental Society and the American Dental Association giving her national recognition as America’s top ten most accomplished dentists under ten years of practice. She has also won several 40 under 40 awards, in 2019 she was featured on the coveted list by Benco and in 2022 she was featured on the Boston Congress of Public Health & Harvard Public Health Review Journal’s Public Health Catalyst Awards as the only dentist on the list. In 2021 she was awarded the DentaQuest Health Equity award for continuing to provide dental care to the vulnerable geriatric population throughout the pandemic. In 2023, the American Dental Association awarded her the Evidence Based Dentistry (EBD) award in the practice category for being a national leader in the application of EBD guidelines into the daily practice of Dentistry.
She holds Fellowships in the American Society of Geriatric Dentists, the International College of Dentists, the American College of Dentists and the Pierre Fauchard Academy. She has lectured on Geriatric Dental Medicine at prestigious conventions like the American Dental Association, American Dental Education Association and FDI World Dental Congresses. She has also been invited by Deans and faculty to lecture at universities in North America, South America, Europe, Asia & Africa. She has also worked with universities in India to add Geriatrics to their Bachelor of Dental Surgery curriculum.
Dr. Rawal treats centenarians (patients over the age of 100) on a daily basis, she is also an avid painter, baker, organic gardener and lives with her husband and son in Boston, USA.

Irma Ruiter received her M.A. in Communication Disorders & Sciences from the State University of New York in 1984. She worked on a team of professionals as a Speech-Language Pathologist with Bethesda Community Services in St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada, serving adults with intellectual impairments for 37 years. She is the author of Allow Me: A Guide to Promoting Communication Skills in Adults in Developmental Disabilities, published by the Hanen Centre in 2000. She was trained in the Social Story approach by Carol Gray and had been successfully using social stories as a tool to develop improved interaction and communication skills with the adults with whom she worked for approximately the last 20 years of her career.

June Sadowsky, DDS, MPH, is a Department of General Practice and Dental Public Health professor at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) School of Dentistry. I am a dentist geriatrician, having completed a fellowship in dental geriatrics as well as geriatric dental research. As a fellow of the American Society of Geriatric Dentistry and a Diplomate of the Special Care Dentistry Association, I have an extensive background in geriatric patient dental treatment both at home and in long-term care facilities. As co-investigator on several university and HRSA grants, I provide the dental component in multidisciplinary projects and advance the importance of oral health in overall general health. Additionally, I contribute to my institution in geriatric clinical education of predoctoral dental students, creating courses and nursing home rotations.

Dr. Anubhuti Shukla is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Dental Public Health and Dental Informatics at Indiana University School of Dentistry (IUSD). She also serves as the Director for the Community Based Dental Education Program at IUSD. She is trained to treat medically complex and special needs patients and as a trained Public Health Dentist, she has a broad background in a variety of community dentistry topics with special focus on Oral Health policies that include oral health workforce capacity and access to quality services in underserved settings. Her unique skill set, which includes specialized training in special needs dentistry (GPR) and a wealth of knowledge in oral health policy and epidemiology, enables her to address the specific needs of patients with complex medical needs. Dr. Shukla approaches dental care with a dedicated focus on public health principles and health equity.

Elisabeth Thompson is a dedicated Occupational Therapy Practitioner (OTP) with 24 years of experience. She holds a faculty appointment as a Clinical Instructor at the University at Buffalo in the Pediatric and Community Dentistry Department and serves as the Director of Occupational Therapy at University Pediatric Dentistry.
Recognized for her excellence in teaching with the 2023 Educator Award, Elisabeth has transitioned Occupational Therapy services from a pilot project to a practice plan within dental settings since 2022. This shift has expanded community initiatives and addressed healthcare disparities. She has played a role in training dental students to enhance care for patients with special healthcare needs and has fostered interdisciplinary collaboration.
As a proven leader, Elisabeth has supervised and mentored 14 master’s-level OT students from the US and Canada during their fieldwork in dental settings since summer 2022. She is passionate about improving healthcare outcomes for individuals with special healthcare needs by fostering collaboration between OTPs and dental providers.

Barbie Vartanian is the Director of Oral Health Advocacy and Policy Initiatives at the NYU College of Dentistry. As the nation’s largest dental school, NYU College of Dentistry is uniquely poised to lead advocacy and policy advancements for those with disabilities. The NYU College of Dentistry’s Oral Health Center for People with Disabilities (OHCPD) addresses a major public health challenge by providing comprehensive, compassionate dental care for people with a full range of disabilities who experience significant barriers to accessing care. Ms. Vartanian will leverage the work of OHCPD to address the disparities and ensure equitable health outcomes for individuals with disabilities.
Prior to her role at NYU, Ms. Vartanian held the role of Executive Director, Project Accessible Oral Health, a global initiative focused on improving the health equity of the more than 61 million individuals living with a physical or intellectual disability.
Ms. Vartanian also led the Pacific Dental Services Foundation. She was instrumental in the development of a training program for dental professionals that focuses on improving the access and overall care for individuals with special needs.
Her most important role is mother to her son with Autism. She understands firsthand the barriers he faces and will continue to face throughout his life. Once Sam was diagnosed, she knew she needed to do something more, to be his voice, his advocate, and his champion!
She also sits on the boards of several non-profit organizations such as the NYU College of Dentistry Center for People with Disabilities Advisory Board, CareQuest Pandemic Response Group, ECLC of New Jersey, Positive Exposures, Concorde Career College National Advisory Board, Hackensack Meridian Health Autism Center Committee, The Center for Oral Health, OPEN National Response Team on Disability and Inclusion, COVID-19 Public-Private Partner Dental Coordination Group and multiple state oral health coalitions and taskforces on disability and oral health.

Dr. Allen Wong has taught postdoctoral general dentistry for 30 years in ( Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) programs and is the director of Pacific's Hospital Dentistry Program and Director of Highland Hospital Restorative Implant program. He has lectured nationally and internationally in the areas of special care dentistry, rotary endodontics, implant restorations, and minimally invasive dentistry. He is active with Special Olympics Special Smiles program as one of the two Global Clinical Advisors, Immediate Past President of the American Academy of Developmental Medicine and Dentistry (AADMD) and Special Care Dentistry Association( SCDA). Immediate Past President of the National Caries Management By Risk Assessment (CAMBRA) Coalition.
Currently, Professor at the University of the Pacific Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry in the Department of Diagnostic Sciences as well as private practice in San Francisco. He is a member of ADA, CDA and San Francisco Dental Society.
