Students get little to no training on patients with IDD*.

We’re changing that.

NICHE is an acronym.

It stands for National Inclusive Curriculum for Health Education

NICHE is a curriculum initiative of the AADMD. We understand people with IDD thrive when their health team collaborates. That’s why, since 2009, NICHE was developed with all health disciplines in mind - medical, dental, nursing, OT, PT and beyond. NICHE offers curriculum options for medical and dental schools specifically, but it’s completely interdisciplinary in nature.

Developed with 3 key partners.

Medical Education

Are you a medical educator or medical student interested in IDD Curriculum?

For medical educators, NICHE-MED provides grants to medical schools to support the development of community engaged IDD curriculum. Our approach provides tailored technical assistance to schools to help them build upon existing disability curriculum or to help them get started with disability curriculum efforts.
For medical students, NICHE-MED offers scholarships for IDD-focused clinical away rotations as part of the NICHE-MED Scholar Program.

Dental Education

Are you a dental educator or dental student interested in IDD Curriculum?

For educators, NICHE-Dental offers an off-the-shelf IDD curriculum developed with over 90 authors and 22 dental schools. You can use this curriculum as is or build upon it. Educators get access to the modules, teaching guides, pre- and post-test results as well as chapter presentations.

For dental students, NICHE-Dental offers access to the teaching modules and pdf chapters.

The NICHE Dental curriculum covers basic and complex topics, so educators and learners can be well prepared to serve patients with IDD.
